History of the Award

zig-ziglarZig Ziglar is revered by many as the father of motivational speaking. After traveling five millions miles, publishing 27 books and motivating thousands, Mr. Hilary Hinton "Zig" Ziglar is, as in his own words, a "meaningful specific." His books and rallies focus on personal growth, leadership, sales, faith, family and success.

While his work inspires many, it is Mr. Ziglar's character of integrity, hope and servant leadership that separates him from the rest.

Through the shared vision of the Prestonwood Foundation and Prestonwood Christian Academy, the Zig Ziglar Servant Leadership Award was established in the spring of 2008 with the purpose of encapsulating the legacy of Zig Ziglar by annually naming a recipient who embodies the very essence of his servant leadership. It is a privilege and a responsibility to carry on the legacy of Mr. Ziglar's name and his servant leadership example for generations yet to come.

2009 Inaugural Recipient, Former Gov. Mike Huckabee

mike_huckabeeServing as the inaugural recipient of the Zig Ziglar Servant Leadership Award, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was chosen for his values, integrity and Christ-like attitude in all he does. Whether he's known for campaigning for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, assisting Republicans running for nationwide office through HuckPac, or leading a health movement across the nation through his own weight loss, Mike Huckabee remains a man of integrity. He currently hosts a talk show on Fox News called "Huckabee."

It is because of this man's character he was chosen for this award. Not for what he's done, but for how he's done it. On April 14, 2009, Gov. Huckabee will be honored under the namesake of one who represented the same type of leadership: Mr. Zig Ziglar.
